Reading Reaction Two

Reading Reaction Assignment: This week's readings seemed to be more focused and less generalized than the previous weeks, but seemed to be of similar value, containing a moderate degree of useful information. Overall, they were fairly interesting, if somewhat overly lengthy. The article "When Responding to Student Writing, More is Better" provided an interesting and in-depth analysis of how teacher feedback to written assignments can often do more harm than good. I can't say I entirely agree with the article's conclusions that students are unable to comprehend simple terms like "focus" however, or agree that many students are simply too lazy to read large amounts of feedback and will ignore it. I personally always go over any written feedback given on essays, and have sometimes wished for more, not less, feedback. Reading Reaction One

Reading Reaction Assignment: My reaction to the assigned readings was that most of them seemed to be pretty sound introductions to the topic of peer tutoring, and the writing process in general, as is to be expected from the first week readings in any class. Overall they seemed to be mostly things that I had read before, but there were some interesting new tidbits to be found. The articles  " Backpacks to Briefcases: Steps Toward Rhetorical Analysis" and  “So What? Who Cares?” were the most interesting of the bunch, as they provided information that was newer and more interesting to me.  The article " Backpacks to Briefcases: Steps Toward Rhetorical Analysis" provided an interesting perspective on writing, and I liked that it went out of its way to mention that no two writers work the same, and that the same methods should not be applied to everybody. About Me Assignment : My name is John Mitchell. I am a sophomore studying to be an English major, with a possible minor in writing. My plans for the future include a possible career as a writer, editor, or English professor.  I enjoy reading and writing, both for school and for leisure.
